Our story
We emerged in 2017 from a dream. Over the years, many dreams have come together, but there is one purpose that unites us: to build a world with room for everyone.
AMAL SOAP was born in 2017 from a social entrepreneurship project with the aim of promoting the inclusion of refugees in the job market.
Since 2023, AMAL has been part of MEERU Abrir Caminho, constituting the organization's social business. We are creating the AMAL Academy.
2017 — The beginning of the dream
Benedita, Michele and Lauranne are in the Social Entrepreneurship chair at the Nova School of Business and Economics.
During a winter vacation, Benedita met a Syrian family who were starting their lives over in Portugal. Inspired by this new friendship, she and Michele and Lauranne presented a project for a social business to help refugees with employment and integration problems in the Social Entrepreneurship course at the Nova School of Business and Economics.
2017 — The evolution of AMAL soap
There is a story behind a soap until it reaches its final version.
Duarte and Pedro joined the team to work on the soap recipe. We won the BET24 entrepreneurship competition and launched a crowdfunding campaign to finance the project. After several attempts, we fine-tuned the recipe and AMAL soap was ready.
2018 — We launched AMAL SOAP
To produce soaps you need a laboratory.
2020 — Maisaa, Ali, Graça and Fanny make up the new AMAL team.
Over time the team changed.
The initial team pursued other personal and professional dreams, which resulted in some changes in the team composition. Fanny and Graça became part of the team and counted on the help of other entities and young volunteers, such as EY and Júnior do ISCTE.
2021 — We introduced AMAL to the world
We shared our dream with clients, companies, friends and the media.
Over the years, we have traveled around the south of the country, visiting fairs and markets. We have held many workshops where we have taught people how to make AMAL soaps and we have shared the story of Maisaa and her family.
2023 — AMAL joins MEERU - Opening the Way
Since December 2023, AMAL has been part of MEERU | Abrir Caminho, constituting its social business.
With a focus on training migrants and refugees, the AMAL Academy was created: a training program aimed at their inclusion in the job market.
